Manor Bash Showcase: LBP School of Dance, The New Cats, and The Red Roses

  • Ravenswood Manor Park 4626 North Manor Avenue Chicago, IL, 60625 United States (map)

On Aug. 24 (that’s a Saturday!), we’re bringing the music to Manor Bash, sponsored by the Ravenswood Manor Improvement Association. It’s a full afternoon of music and performances, starting with LBP School of Dance taking the stage with their annual recital, followed by the foot-stomping bluegrass music of The New Cats, with The Red Roses delivering a knockout punch of hits from the ’90s to today.

LBP School of Dance

Founded in 1956, Mrs. Kittie LaPointe started LBP School of Dance in her basement to teach her daughter and her friends ballet. Three years later, Mrs. LaPointe moved the dance school into its current Ravenswood Manor location where it has remained at for over 60 years.  As a non-profit, LBP’s mission is to welcome dancers from all backgrounds and to offer affordable, quality dance education in a neighborhood location. LBP celebrates all ages, skill levels and body types. Our motto is “Everyone Can Dance.” The studio strives to provide it’s dancers and their families with a well-rounded community that supports learning and a passion for dance.

The Red Roses

The Red Roses are a Chicago-based 5-piece band that performs the alternative and indie hits that Millennials grew up on. Angular guitars, buzzy synths, sweaty beats and soaring vocals, all brought to the stage with edgy passion and authenticity.

Expect to hear music from The Strokes, The White Stripes, The Killers, Coldplay, MGMT, Weezer and much more.

The New Cats

New Cats formed back in the summer of 2012 when Jordan Blimbaum had the idea of starting a bluegrass band in the Heart of Illinois. He’d recently moved to Peoria from Atlanta, where he’d started picking the banjo in bluegrass jam circles. In Peoria, he met guitarist Chris Skierski, mandolin & banjo player Mike Adashek, and bassist Evan Stumpges through their new job. They all started playing music together, which evolved into an amazing friendship and musical journey. Jordan moved onto brighter and better lands, and the group picked up acquired Karolina Wozny on fiddle, and Keith Shank on mandolin and dobro.

The band members encompass a wide mixture of music backgrounds from jazz to punk and each bring their own unique flavor to the bluegrass genre. They fuse a mixture of high energy and uptempo new and traditional bluegrass & folk music, along with a handful of their own finely crafted tunes. Since its founding, New Cats has performed throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan at local festivals, parks, charity events, watering holes and weddings. Your friendly neighborhood bluegrass band would love to see you at a show soon!
