A Hot time in Horner Park kicks off the Summer on June 20!
Please join the Horner Park Advisory Council and the six neighborhood
organizations surrounding the park for a fun-filled day loaded with
activities. Thanks to Alderman Deb Mell, State Senator Iris Martinez and
State Rep Jaime Andrade for their generous support.
Morning & All-day Activities:
- Farmers Market (9am – 1pm): over a dozen vendors, live music, great
food, plants and produce. Located by the park field house at Montrose and
California. - Riverfront Walking Tours: (8am – 5pm): Join the US Army Corp of Engineers
as they conduct guided tours of the construction zone in the park along
the river. This is a once-a-year opportunity to see the progress of the
river front restoration and new waterfront trail. Very limited capacity,
visit the hornerpark.org website for schedule and registration. Note: No
open-toed shoes allowed. REGISTER HERE!
Afternoon activities (3pm -6pm) Located in the park at Berteau and
California –
- for the kids: face painting, art project, Moonwalk inflatable, bicycle
parade - games and intra-neighborhood group competitions: fun run, beanbag
toss competition, three legged race, tug of war, volley ball, chess
tournament - bicycle safety and promotion, Go Albany Park, Divvy information, and
other sponsor tables. - pizza eating contest
- food & drink: food and ice cream vendor on site or bring your own to eat,
drink and barbecue. Limited seating so bring your own chairs
Evening activities (6pm -10:45pm):
- 6:30 pm: Latin dance lessons. Several basic Latin dance steps will be
demonstrated. - 7:00 pm: Salsa band (The “SalsaChicago Mambo All-stars Orchestra”) The
SalsaChicago Mambo All-stars play a vast repertoire of music including
Original compositions and Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Mambo, Latin Jazz,
Boleros, Cha Cha Cha, Guajiras, Cumbias and more. - 9:00 pm or dusk: Movie in the Park – “When the Game Stood Tall”, a
motivational sports movie (2014) starring Jim Caviezel and Laura Dern.
