October 2015 Meeting Minutes

Horner Park Advisory Council
Meeting Minutes
Oct. 5, 2015

The HPAC meeting was called to order at the Horner Park Fieldhouse at 7:05pm.

Previous Minutes:
The minutes of the Sept. 2015 meeting were approved, pending changes.

Treasurer’s Report:
The following funds are in HPAC accounts:

Checking    $28,422.87
Savings        $14,728.23
PayPal            $8,977.19
Total            $52,128.29

All accounts reconcile with QuickBooks. Kevin is pursuing the possibility of opening a Quickbooks account for a registered non-profit, which has an annual fee of $50; currently, he is using his personal Quickbooks account.

A motion was made and passed to change our registered agent from Tom to Deb.

Farmer’s Market:
Deb suggested that seed be put down at the end of the Farmer’s Market. The season has been really wet.

Dog Friendly Area Committee:
Peter asked for a clarification on which thank-you notes he should write. Lynn is going to send Peter a list.
Erica reported the calendars are for sale at $20 each. They have sold enough calendars to pay for the costs, so all additional sales are profit.
Erica still needs a few volunteer for Midnight Circus: Friday night from 6-9, Saturday 1-4 and 4-7. Sunday is staffed.
Erica says that they have about 2/3 of the funds they need and a desired design and want to discuss it with the park district. Deb was asked to contact Claudine and try to initiate a meeting.
There is a new video by Big Teeth on you-tube; there is a link on the web-site and Facebook.

Concert Committee:
The first planning meeting is going to be a meeting in November.
John would like the sign used for the concerts to be repainted. It hangs on the pergola at Ravenswood above the name of the performer. John is going to check with an artist he knows. Deb suggested that Carol, who works at Horner Park, is an excellent artist and might be able to incorporate it in her classes.

Park Briefs:
Erica complimented the Park District for the new table and chairs in the conference room, with agreement from all attendees.
Deb is considering adding fun runs to Horner Park. Deb would like to have a Turkey Trot with 5 age groups and 2 prizes, such as a frozen turkey or a pumpkin pie. Deb is also considering various fun runs, such as a color-run.

Horner Park:
Peter sent email to Nicole regarding tours of the new development; the proposed dates are the 17th or 24th. Lynn suggested that Peter use a Volunteer Spot to allow people to sign-up for tours. Erica suggested Sign-up Genius as an alternative. As soon as Peter hears from Nicole, he will notify everyone.

There is no pumpkin patch this year. The park district moves the pumpkin patch around.

Ravenswood Manor Park:
The benches are being fixed. If they are vandalized again, Deb will try to determine if they are even wanted by the community. John O said that all the lights in the park are working.

Jacob Park:
There have been email complaints and Facebook comments because people are bringing their dogs to run off-leash. Janice Taylor is going to observe the park and decide if dogs, on leashes, will be allowed in the park at all.

Buffalo Park:
Park clean-up 2 weeks ago and now looks great.

Sunken Gardens: No Report

Website Committee: No Report

Stewardship Committee:
This Friday there is a volunteer clean-up; 28 people have signed up. Peter asked Deb to move the mulch into several distributed piles. Deb inquired if she could ask WMS volunteers to clean walls as well as do the mulching. Both Peter and John O. said that was perfectly acceptable.

Landscape Committee for Ravenswood Manor Park:
John O. thanked Peter for initiating this committee.
New Business:
Kevin suggested that we start thinking about the location for the Christmas party.
The suggestions are the Break Room and Angelos.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20pm

Respectfully Submitted,
Lisa Cleveland Co-Secretary
