Horner Park Advisory Council
Meeting Minutes
President Peter Schlossman called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM; the meeting was at the Horner Park Field House. A quorum was determined to be present.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the 9/12/11 meeting were approved, with modifications.
Report of the Treasurer

Total $19,806.56
All accounts are reconciled and consistent with records and bank statements. The report of the treasurer was approved.
Website Committee
Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday October 12 at 7:30.
Concert Committee
Recognition of another successful season. Further success requires additional help. A net financial return of $1,721 was reported.
Dog Friendly Area
Baseball representatives stated concerns about dogs and dog droppings. Safety and sanitation issues were raised. There is increasing police enforcement of leash and sanitation rules. There was no further report or information on the dog friendly area project.
Park Briefs
Horner
A report on the field house upgrade project was presented and discussed. Project underway, elevator installation to begin later in the month. Two sets of electric bleachers to be installed and the gym floor to be polished.
Park programming continues to be strong with classes at 90% enrollment. The wood craft program was discussed and there was recognition of on-going success. The Board strongly advocates continuation and possible expansion of the wood craft program. Peter Schlossman (with input from Larry Brown) will write a letter of support to CPD leadership.
Volleyball nets upgrade under consideration. Funds have been raised for this purpose.
On-going management of graffiti issues with recent problems on the field house and in the basketball area discussed. Lights will be inspected and repaired as needed. Replacement and/or removal of the memorial flag discussed.
Baseball had a very good year. Baseball representatives praised the good field conditions. The Baseball Association has a ten person board, with elections recently held. The Association has no debts and no liabilities. There was general discussion of a possible upgrade of the small field house and a general discussion of the spreading of bio-solids on the playing fields. The Board and the Baseball Association agreed to maintain open communication of plans.
Ravenswood Manor
Discussion of a new kiosk; a schematic has been reviewed by CPD carpenters. Peter Schlossman and Tom McManamon will inspect a kiosk in storage.
Garden Committee
Successful tree planting on October 1 with +30 volunteers; also mulching spread, fence repair and clean up at Ravenswood Manor Park in cooperation with the Ravenswood Manor Improvement Association. John O’Connell reported that more than $2000 raised for the purchase of trees.
New Business
Kevin Anderson reported that he received drawings from Bill Higgins of the Irving Park underpass; will be posted on website.
The meeting adjourned at 9:10 PM. The next meeting with be Monday November 7.
