Horner Park Advisory Council
Meeting Minutes

President Peter Schlossman called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM; the meeting was at the Horner Park Field House. A quorum was determined to be present.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the 10/3/11 meeting were approved, with modifications.

Report of the Treasurer

MB Checking $6,657.49

Chase Checking $5,208.44

Chase Savings $5,125.18

Paypal $1,125.18

Total $18,117.89

All accounts are reconciled and consistent with records and bank statements. The report of the treasurer was approved.

Dream Host payment to be made: Peter Schlossman and Larry Brown to be contact persons.

Concerning Concert Committee: March through October is the seasonal and fiscal year for reporting purposes, with funds received in subsequent year reflecting activities in prior year are posted in prior year. Committee has a surplus of $1721.

Concert Committee

John O’Connell was requested and agreed to lead the committee. Next season there will be six concerts at Manor Park with possible scheduling on alternating Friday evenings during June through August. Sponsorship of concerts at other locations depends on potential volunteer leadership. Discussion of possible enhancement of talent offerings. Discussion of utilization of coupons in ad book to demonstrate advertising value. Discussion of possible movie night at Horner Park, and financial support by CPD

Website Committee

Successful Committee meeting held resulting in enhanced know-how and improved operating skill.

Dog Friendly Areas

There was no further information on the dog friendly area project. Discussion of Doggie Egg Day as a means to advance this project and an opportunity by a representative the 17 District to explain dog issue enforcement at Horner. Larry Brown will reach out to 17 on this issue and suggested a means to document ordinance violations.

Garden Committee

Bulbs planted at Manor and Buffalo Parks. Two workdays at Buffalo, Sunnyside corners cleared and planting completed. Plantings of bulbs and perennials contributed by Green Corps.

Park Briefs

Horner

A report on the field house upgrade project was presented by Jake Palumbo and discussed. Automatic doors are awaiting electric wiring. Electrical work regarding the elevator is pending. December 12-23 scheduled for bleacher installation and gym floor polishing.

The wood craft program was discussed and there was Board recognition of significant value and on-going success. The Board strongly advocates continuation and expansion of the wood craft program. Wood Shop registration not currently being accepted resulting in customer/user dissatisfaction. Peter Schlossman and Larry Brown will again communicate support to CPD leadership and request a timely decision in favor of the program.

Volleyball net upgrades have been funded by HPAC.

Maintenance of the memorial flag discussed, with Board support for the installation of a spot light.

Very successful Pumpkin Day event with 500-600 participants

Jacob

Discussion of vegetation clearing to aid in law enforcement and prevent loitering.

Ravenswood Manor

Bulletin board replacement in process. Possible addition of new benches. Discussion of need to replace lights.

Possible December meeting on December 5 at 8:00 PM – date, time and location to be confirmed and communicated by email.

The meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM.
