Meeting Minutes
Anne Rozmin, as president, called the meeting to order at 7:50p.m. Larry Brown acted as secretary for this meeting.
May Minutes: John O’Connell moved to accept the March minutes as presented. The motion was seconded by Susie Novak and was passed unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report: Anne Rozmin, in Elaine Taylor’s absence, delivered the Treasurer’s report. The balances are as follows:
- Checking Account: $ 8,003.79
- Savings Account: 1,905.47
- Buffalo Park Mon. CD’s 2,094.14
- Totals $ 12,003.40
Announcements: The planting of the Wildlife Garden at Manor Park has been rescheduled for Saturday June 16, 2001 and Saturday June 23, 2001.
Horner Park Advisory Council Business: A letter from Rodger Konow, of the Chicago Park District, was presented that responded to the waste disposal letter that the council had previously sent him. He assured us that the CPD was working on getting enough trash dumpsters into the parks to handle the large volume of trash. Elaine Taylor, Anne Rozmin and Larry Hodak recently attended The North River Commission’s river projects second “Show and Tell”, nothing new was presented. All work on the north branch of the Chicago River is moving forward. A request for a press release in the Lerner News will be made to announce the planting of the new Wildlife Garden. HPAC has received a $250.00 donation each from Alderman Richard Mell and State Representative John Fritchy for the Wildlife Garden.. HPAC has received $ 1,500.00 from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency for the Horner Monument Garden.
Garden Committee: Presented by Susie Novak. The new planters were installed in Buffalo Park and Manor Park. The upper and lower Monument Gardens at Horner Park are completed. Susie is still working on finishing the removal of the last day lilies from Manor Park. Susie was asked to trim the lilacs next to the Manor park pergola befor the June 17th concert. Maria Smith, a friend of the late Mimi Levine, contacted Anne Rozmin about planting a memorial tree. Anne Rozmin referred her to the Green Deeds program of the Chicago Park District. Maria is in charge of fund Raising for the tree. Checks can be made out to HPAC and given to Maria.
Concert Committee: John O’Connell presented the Concert Committee Report. Collections from the spring mailing are in and represent over 80 households. The programs have been printed and are ready to pass out. Many thanks to our advertisers. The concert series will again run a small deficit.
Park Briefs: Mark Hebert was in attendance representing the Horner Park Staff.
Horner Park: The bicycle at Horner Park has finally been removed. Mark would like us to pass out flyers on the CPD Craft Mobile that will be at Manor Park and Horner Park this summer. Also there will be free movies at Horner Park, at dusk, on Friday nights in July.
Ravenswood Manor Park: The new Planter was installed. The keys to the new job box at Manor Park were distributed. Susie Novak, Larry Brown, John O’Connell, Nic Acciari and Anne Rozmin all received keys. Also one key will remain at Horner Park with Terry Sweeney. The electrical outlets for the pergola have been upgraded to accommodate the larger bands that will be playing in the Concert Series. The pre-installation work for the new Wildlife Garden at Manor Park has not gone smoothly. Jake Peters troop leader needed him to rework his plan as it was not sufficient to proceed with the installation. Anne Rozmin suggested moving the date of planting back by one week.

Horner Park Riverbank Initiative: no report.
