Horner Park Advisory Council
Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Vice President Larry Brown, acting for President Peter Schlossman. The meeting was at the Horner Park Field House and a quorum was determined to be present. Vice President Brown welcomed new attendees and explained the role and function of HPAC with an encouragement to participate.

Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the 12/5/2012 meeting were approved, with modifications.

Report of the Treasurer

Total $18,451.88

All accounts are reconciled and consistent with records and bank statements. The report of the treasurer was approved.

Riverfront Study
Larry Brown described the project and stated that administrative work was underway. HPAC will monitor the process to assure that the best interests of Horner Park are represented.

Concert Committee
Calendar and budget in preparation for summer season at Manor Park on selected Fridays and Sundays. Producers are currently booking acts. Agreement with Lunar Media was reviewed between John O’Connell and John Bernom. Certain suggested changes were identified.

Dog Friendly Area
The prior sponsors of the project are no longer able to proceed. HPAC will assign the project to a volunteer who steps forward. HPAC will sponsor and encourage future work. Discussion of Doggie Egg Hunt as a means to advance this project.

Garden Committee
Meeting to be scheduled prior to end of January.

Park Briefs
Horner
A report on the field house upgrade project was presented by Tom McManamon. Electric bleachers were recently installed. We are awaiting final review and inspection of the elevator and ADA modification of showers; expected within 60 days. Tom thanked HPAC for its fundraising contribution to pay for volleyball net equipment. All outside work completed.

The wood craft program was discussed and there was HPAC recognition of significant value of the program. HPAC strongly advocates continuation and expansion of the wood craft program; a letter of support to CPD leadership from Peter Schlossman will be drafted by Larry Brown to again communicate support for the wood craft program and request a timely decision in favor of its continuation. Tom McManamon thanked HPAC for its contribution for a farewell gathering for wood craft instructor Jim MacRoberts.
Valentine Dance scheduled for February 10 at 6:30 – 9:00, with potential funding from the baseball association. Doggie Egg Hunt scheduled for April 7 from 10:00 am to noon with potential funding from HPAC. Earth Day April 21 and River Day May 12. The baseball association is soliciting for the new season.

Avon Breast Cancer event June 1 – June 3 consisting of a walk from Soldier Field to Horner Park with overnight camping at Horner and a return walk to Soldier Field. This is considered one of the most successful and significant events at Horner.

Jacob
Major park upgrade to be addressed at the next HPAC meeting, February 6, with invitations to Friends of Jacob and Alderman Pawar’s office.

Ravenswood Manor
Bulletin board replacement completed successfully. Current light outage being addressed.

The meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.
