Horner Park Advisory Council
Meeting Minutes
Anne Rozmin, as president, called the meeting to order at 7:40p.m. Anne Rozmin, acted as secretary for this meeting, as Larry Brown is absent.
Previous Month’s Minutes: The December minutes will be presented at the February meeting by Jerry Giese, who is absent.
Treasurer’s Report: Discussions will be deferred to the February meeting as Treasurer, Elaine Taylor, is absent. The balances are as follows:
- Checking Account: $ 2109.21
- Savings Account: 1915.96
- Buffalo Park Mon. CD’s 2094.14
- Totals $ 6119.31
Anne Rozmin reported a $ 500.00 donation from an anonymous donor.
Announcements: Christmas tree recycling will be available in Revere Park on January 9th. A seminar on consumer protection will be held at the Sulzer Regional Library on January 22nd. The Service Employees Union will be hosting a meeting, discussing park problems, on January 10th.
An Advisory Council Information Fair will be held at Garfield Park on January 12th.
Horner Park Advisory Council Business: Information from Green Corp. was given to Anne Rozmin. After a discussion, it was decided that this information was to be passed on to our Vice President, Nic Acciari, for his review. Alan Mueller was to pass this information on to Nic. A copy of the Council Scene, received by Anne Rozmin, was shared with the group.
Garden Committee: No Report
Concert Committee: John O’Connell reported that a Summer Concert Committee meeting will be convened in February, date to be announced later.
Park Briefs: Terry Sweeney was in attendance representing the Horner Park Staff.
Horner Park: Terry Sweeney announced that the winter session at Horner Park will begin on January 7th. Our Horner Park Tumbling Team placed in the recent Mayor’s Winter Sports Festival held December 27th-29th. Congratulations, great job. The Friday Night Movie Series will be back in July.
Ravenswood Manor Park: No Report
Buffalo Park: Larry Hodak presented two plans for the proposed Council Circle in Buffalo Park. Further discussions will resume when more members return for the February meeting. Anne Rozmin reported on the tree planting that took place in December. A purple beech tree was planted to replace the dead one on the Manor Ave. side of Buffalo Park. Many thanks to Anne Sylvan, John O’Connell, Jerry and Charlotte Giese, and of course Anne Rosmin for their help. Anne was also able to get this new tree staked and mulched later in December.
Horner Park Riverbank Initiative: No news yet from Mike Emerson. Larry Hodak updated the Council on the Northside Prep’s river project. Larry expressed concern over how the river bank was reshaped and the number of trees that were removed.
Adjournment: Anne Rozmin thanked all those in attendance and the meeting was adjourned at 8:30p.m.
