Be prepared for a marathon weekend of fun and entertainment as the Horner Park Advisory Council presents THREE DAYS of events at part of the 20th Season of Free Summer Concerts in Ravenswood Manor Park.
Our weekend kicks off on Friday, June 27 AT 7 pm with the Hokule’a Academy of Polynesian Arts providing a clinic on all things hula! We figured that with the Ravenswood Manor Improvement Association celebrating its 100th birthday, combined with the Horner Park Advisory Council celebrating its 25th Anniversary, we should compromise and honor Hawaii, our 50th state! Come and see the beautiful dancers, and thrill at the Tahitian Fire Dance! Absorb a few hula steps and learn some ukulele licks!
This evening is sponsored by Golden Crust Pizza and The Mozart Neighbors.
Then on Saturday, June 28, the Centennial Weekend really gets into gear with the celebration of the 100th year of the Ravenswood Manor Improvement Association’s with the return of the ManorBash!
This incredible day starts at noon at Buffalo Park at California and Sunnyside, as the traditional Kids’ Bike Parade, led by a firetruck, marches up Manor to Ravenswood Manor Park for free hotdogs for each child. The troops should gather at Buffalo at 11:45 AM.
The children will then be treated to a show by CircEsteem, a company dedicated to uniting youth from diverse racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, and helps them build self-esteem through the practice of circus arts! Facepainting and a special appearance by the Manor’s own Huggie the Clown will brighten this already shimmering day.
Music acts to follow all day include the string band Pushing Chain, reggae from Gizzae, folk and roots music from Mad Bread, and we cap the evening with the Dave Specter Blues Band! There is music for all tastes all day under the Pergola!
And if that is not enough, you will witness one of the largest and best block parties ever! There will be sports activities like basketball, volleyball, street hockey, badminton, minigolf, bag toss, a jumping jack, arts and crafts, a bike clinic, a dog clinic, free lemonade, a free kids raffle, and food trucks!
Please be warned that street closures will be in effect most of the day. The 4600 block of Manor will be closed, as will the 4600 block of Francisco and the 2900 block of Eastwood.
This incredible Centennial Bash is presented by the Horner Park Advisory Council and the Ravenswood Manor Improvement Association. It is sponsored by Alderman Deborah Mell and the 33rd Ward Office. Special thanks to the Centennial Committee and all the volunteers who make this event possible! Special thanks also to the Chicago Park District.
And what better way to close out the Centennial Weekend but with a performance of Lewis Carroll’s timeless classic, Alice in Wonderland by Ravenswood Manor’s own Theatre-Hikes! The show starts on Sunday June 29th at 1 PM under the Pergola in Manor Park. This even is sponsored by the Horner Park Advisory Council.
And best of all, all of these events are FREE!
So come out for the music and fun, and bring your friends and family for a weekend to remember in Ravenswood Manor Park.
