Horner Park Advisory Council
Meeting Minutes
Larry Brown, as President, presiding, called the meeting to order at 7:005PM. Kevin Anderson acted as Secretary for this meeting. See roster below for attendance.
Previous Minutes: The minutes of the January 2009 meeting were approved with amendments.
Treasurer’s Report: The account balances are $7,443.19 in checking and $10,552.72 in savings. The HPAC books are reconciled with the Chase account balances. The two outstanding checks from last year have been canceled. There are no final figures as yet for the baseball clinic. Susie Novak 1099 form has been sent to her. An eFiling for form 940 is due by the end of the month. A Profit and Loss Statement for fiscal 2008 was presented, showing a net $2179.93 for the 2008 concert program, which is on par with the our expectation.
Council Business:
Announcements: This year’s Valentine’s Dance will be on Feb. 6. The Council voted unanimously to contribute up to $200 for refreshments and decorations. Horner Park will host a neighborhood Sports Fest on Mar. 28. The Doggie Easter Egg Hunt Co-Rec volleyball starts Jan. 6.
Concert Committee: At the Jan. 14 meeting the committee set the dates and came up with a budget, with $1500 for expenses and $10,500 for entertainment. The Council voted unanimously to approve a budget of $12,000. There will not be a Manor Bash again this year. The July 10 concert will feature a movie; the CPD needs $1000 to secure the date.
Garden Committee: Susie Novak has submitted her paperwork and is waiting to hear back.
Web Site: Michael plans to update the templates to give them a fresh look, and updating the PayPal link for concerts.
Volunteer Committee: No report.
Park Briefs:
Horner Park: The baseball clinic was a great success. Tom has not yet had a meeting to discuss capital improvement for the ballfields. The possibility of retaining outside expertise to help in maintaining the condition of the fields was discussed. Eileen can get used Joboxes for $300, delivered. The construction in front of the fieldhouse was due to a water main break.
Larry talked to Chuck Lomanto from the 33rd ward office about the underbridge connector. They are moving forward with a plan and feasibility study. A letter from CDOT indicated the soonest date would be 2011.
Kevin did a network survey and found there is an unused CAT5 cable connection from the HPBA office to the main floor telco closet, which could be used to extend wifi access to the second floor multi-purpose room.
Horner Park Baseball Association: The first week of registrations was slow due to the Superbowl , but on par with last year. The HPBA voted for refunds for last year’s banquet. They are planning a fundraiser at Lazo’s Tacos. They are considering accounting software options and are working to get help with an audit. They are looking for coaches to come forward for teams for 16-18 year-olds. CPD is awaiting an operating budget and debt payment plan.
Ravenswood Manor Park: The RMIA would like a crosswalk parallel to the crossing gates, with curb cutaways. Tom will check with the outside electric guys about replacing the old streetlight post in the middle of the park.
Jacob Park: No report.
Buffalo Park: John O’Connell is planning a dedication. Susie has submitted her input on the vegetation.
Sunken Garden Park: Alan reported that the sign for the light pole is gone. He could not remember what it said.
Flag pole: Tom met with Reid to discuss doing his Eagle project in conjunction with the flagpole. The possibilities for benches was discussed. A follow-up meeting with Reid and interested Council members is scheduled for next week.
